The Periodic Table's Families

Alkali and Alkaline

The Alkali family is in group 1. It has only one valence electron
except Lithium. Alkali metals are VERY reactive.

The Alkaline family is in group 2 and are Earth metals. Alkaline is reactive but not as much as The Alkali family (group one).

Halogens

Halogens are present in group 17. The Halogens are a series of non-metal elements.  In the Halogens family they have 7 valence electrons. Atoms in the Halogens family react easily with other elements that can give up or  share electrons. Halogens are highly reactive.

 Noble Gases

Noble Gases are in group 18. They have 8 valence electrons except for Helium that has two. They are very stable. Noble Gases do not react easily with other elements. Chemists have been able to make noble gases form compounds with a few other elements.
